Broadband without a BT line?

You DO NOT need a telephone line to have broadband. I don't!!!

I am with Virgin - I have the rental at £18 a month so yes - it is cheaper!! At the moment they have a special offer so check it out :-) (They also have various speeds and prices so check them too)

Virgin are a high speed fibre optic line and faster than those that run through a phone line.

Unless you can receive cable (Virgin media or similar) or you want to pay for Satellite Broadband, you need a telephone line. The fact is it will be a BT line even if you use another supplier like Talk Talk, you of course have a choice of Broadband suppliers as well as telephony suppliers.

No. The only ways to get broadband are through a BT line, cable (only Virgin available). The only other option is through mobile operator like 3 or O2, but it's not as fast as broadband.

You need a landline for most normal broadband services, but there are alternatives. They are unlikely to be cheaper though unless you have a cable service for your TV or phone which you can get broadband with and get them all packaged together. A cable service like Virgin is a good example. You used to be able to get satellite broadband (not sure if you still can or not) but this was very expensive. You may also want to look into mobile broadband which Vodafone and 3 are pushing a lot right now. Links below (thanks 3 and vodafone for providing such simple, concise links!!!)

you'd have to keep the line, but nothing's stopping you from switching telephone companies including the line. I've got a complete package with Tiscali. The line rental, anytime free calls, free international calls and 8MG broadband for £20 a month. Which i thought was pretty good and no more BT. It saved me a small fortune because i do ring the US and Australia.

Move to Hull and be part of the only district in the country to have their own Telecommunications company, no BT here unless its paid to have one put in or BT rent off our Kingston Comms lines. But you only have the choice using KC broadband only.

you can get broadband my friend but you would need to get something like a 3G card which connects via radio waves rather than down your telephone line. the prices vary though depending on the speed which you require.

Two choices then. Either cable if you live in a cable area or mobile broadband through a dongle.
