UK / english mpg?

Dear Brits ... do you use Imperial Gallons when you calculate your car's Miles-per-gallon? A friend's father, is visiting the States and tells me that his Ford Focus gets 50 miles per gallon. The US Ford Focus gets about 30 - 35 m.p.g. ... just wondering if the old guy is as drunk as he sounds.

yes we still use imperial gallons. So bigger than yours.

50 MPG is a bit of wishful thinking. I get about 42 MPG from mine and that requires careful driving.

The U.S. gallon is 80% of the Imperial gallon. A petrol powered Ford Focus which may average 40m.p.g. in U.K. would give 32m.p.g. in U.S.

The Britis Focus would probably get around 48m.p.Imperial gallon.
