What part of Salem Oregon is the bad part of town? I?

For the most part, there are no "bad" parts of Salem, it's a pretty little city. But I would say the less prosperous neighborhoods are in North Salem. Definitely stay away from Portland Road, that's probably the seediest area of town. You do get more minorities in that area of the city e.g. "Little Mexico". South Salem and West Salem are probably the best areas to live in, or housing around Willamette University toward downtown is decent too.

I'm wondering why you're thinking of moving to Salem in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I like the place, I grew up there, but it's definitely not a city you'd want to live in if you're single and in your 20's. It's more of a family town and older/middle age adults.

By the way, Salem is not "ghetto", far from it. Some areas like I said aren't great like near Portland Road and North Salem, but my parents live in a neighborhood where they can leave their doors unlocked and they've never been robbed.
