MMR doctor manipulated data?

It now appears that the doctor involved in the testing of MMR vaccine and the supposed relationship with autism had manipulated the data.As a result of his supposed finding many parents, since 1998 have refused to have their children vaccinated against MMR. This has caused the number of measles cases to rocket and some children have lost their lives

Surely this man should be jailed .What do you think ?

Update:

DM...Until this came to light when a parent had a tiny healthy baby and was faced with the option of having the vaccine they would have tried to find out if it was safe but at the end of the day because this doctor had supposedly discovered the link between this vaccine and autism they believed him and were terrified of potential consequences. What would you have done ? Hind sight is a wonderful thing. This nutcase should still be jailed.

Update 2:

DM .Well one hell of a lot of parents weren't as "trusting" as you and they believed their babies would suffer healthwise as a result of this vaccine. This Dr was supposedly an expert and the parents put their trust in his findings. He has a lot to answer for. If he hadn't twisted the truth in 1998 then Measles would have just about been erradicated by now.

Wow I missed that article which if proven is incredibly damning.

I am glad to say I never wavered from my advice to parents that they should give their children the MMR and also steadfastly advised against the use of single vaccines which have been shown to be less safe than the MMR.

If this chap is shown to have falsified data it could be argued that he was responsible for a huge amount of anxiety and guilt among countless thousands of parents and a lot of soul searching for many doctors, much misery for the thousands of children unimmunised who developed the disease, significant long term morbidity AND a number of deaths, this should not go unpunished.

I agree that he should be punished. His lies (and that's what they were) have caused enormous harm, not only to the children who have suffered and died from not being vaccinated but also to the parents of autistic children who have blamed themselves for getting their children vaccinated and "causing" their autism.

I'm not sure that any laws were broken in the technical sense, and I don't think he can be jailed over this (although I would love to be proven wrong). I think the best we can hope for is that nobody believes anything more this jerk might say; and no, that's not good enough.

Tertia, this is called freedom. Thank you for expressing your opinion. Others reading this can agree or disagree.... another freedom. We need to cherish it. To speak out against something without fear is an American right. Sometimes it is unpleasant and causes anxiety especially if it brings out risks to our people. It is still a right and sometimes a responsibility.

Nobody would think outside the box if you squelch this right. Also, scams would abound if no one felt safe to expose them.

Since he's already been struck off as a doctor and never allowed to practise medicine in the UK again, I think that's punishment enough.

Although, thankfully, we haven't heard of any serious illnesses / death yet, measles is a serious disease.

That said, you can't jail him for the choices of the parent any more than you can blame the maker of a gun for a murder or a car manufacturer for someone dying in an accident.

It is the parents responsibility to find out the information for themselves and act accordingly, not just panic like sheep and listen to the sensationalist media.

Finally, it's weird that he's just been struck off. This "government" usually just kills or has people arrested who don't agree with them!

What would I have done?? Exactly what I did which was to allow my local surgery to give my daughter the MMR jab.

    You are all sheep.

I am not going to bother with you- it is this thinking that risks giving the government carte blanche to vaccinate its citizens with whatever is expedient for managing the country. When that includes euthanasia, or drugging you to the eyeballs to shut you up, I hope you're stood in line.

Yes, the media is right to report challenges to current scientific thinking. Yes, we should be allowed to make up our own minds. No, you should not witch-hunt scientists for challenging current scientific thinking.
