Does cavity wall insulation offer sound proofing?

Our neighbours are really noisy and we are trying to find a solution because they won't stay quiet for longer than 3-4 days. We can't get anyone to answer our question.

Insulation would absorb a lot of noise.

So would adding another layer of drywall on top of the one you have.

Many times they will add a layer of drywall in condo conversions for acoustics.

No. It is designed to stop heat transfer, not sound. The usual solutions are 1) Ask them to be kind enough to keep the noise down 2) Involve the local authority 3) Move.

You could line the party wall with sound insulation and plasterboard, but it needs to be done with care as even the fixings can transmit sound.

Not if it is the kind of insulation used to retain warmth. Generally speaking sound deadening insulation only works when used as close to the sound source as possible, in this instance on your neighbours side of the wall.

glass wool is an excellent heat insulator.it is a very thin strings of glass which arranged into a spongy structure. it is widely used as an insulating material and also as an absorbent material in acoustic treatments such as sound insulation, absorbent ceiling tiles. Its light weight, flexibility and elasticity make it easy to install, which is another essential condition for effective insulation. Slag wool is made primarily from iron ore blast furnace slag. It is also known as man made or synthetic Vitreous Fibre (SVFs) which shows the glassy non crystalline nature of this material. Slag wool insulation products play a significant energy-savings role by reducing energy use in homes, office buildings, businesses and manufacturing plants. In addition to providing thermal insulation. It has melting temperatures in more than 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and are also used to prevent the spread of fire. The primary use of slag wool is acoustical ceiling tile; residential, commercial and industrial insulation; and spray-on fireproofing. The excellent thermal resistance of these materials is a major factor in their use as residential and commercial insulation, pipe and process insulation, insulation for ships, mobile homes, and domestic cooking appliances, and a wide variety of other

yes i will offer good sound protection, you could even go as far as fixing timber frames to the wall, and put insulation behind the new plasterboard for sound insulation between you and your neighbours.

i don't agree with these guys generally, blown fibre wall insulation is not packed thick enough to make any real difference to sound. you need to put sound insulation wall panels on your wall to help.

That'ss the main reason for interior insulation most of the time.

Yes, it will help tremendously if the wall does not have any insulation.
