Am I missing something here?

Dutch forces rushed to rescue a tanker, take note A TANKER, when Somali pirates attacked it in a fishing dhow. A FISHING DOW! ...Um, is it only me, or does something sound fishy here...

It gets better...After the Dutch navy took control of the dhow and liberated the crew who were being held hostage, they SET THE PIRATES FREE. ...something seriously wrong with this picture.

Excuse me for a moment. A mosquito is attacking my house. I need to contact the army so they can capture it unhurt and relocate it.

Update:

Nope Le Drew, they set them free. Here's the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8005730.stm

Update 2:

Good one, Robert. Counter-ransoms may run the pirates aground, in a manner of speaking.

Update 3:

Yep, Cajundude, even though I'm not American (I'm a European African), I can sympathize with the phenomenon of the rich getting richer on the backs of the poor and middle-class - in Africa that's a way of life. Seems like the only ones in the world who still boasts a positive economic growth are the Somali pirates and the Chinese

Hmm...Now there's an interesting observation...

Update 4:

Good to see you again, Cheri.

Update 5:

Hi Cakes. Also good to hear from you. It's been a while, eh.

It IS weird, but that is one of the loopholes of international law. They can only arrest them if the pirates are from the Netherlands, the victims are from the Netherlands, or if they are in Netherlands waters. Or perhaps if they had attacked a dutch ship.

In this case, they could assist the hostages and no more.

Other countries´ armies/navies would have less scruples when dealing with such criminals, hopefully.

No, you're right on. Have you missed the outlandish bonuses CEOs got after they messed up our economy? I say attack the home bases of the pirates. The UN should declare open warfare on pirates. That would be fine with me.
