Anyone had problems getting certificates from GRO, Southport?

I ordered a birth certificate on-line about six weeks ago, one of several. Luckily I kept a copy of my order, because when certificate arrived, the wrong one (previous entry on register page) was sent. My order showed the right name and reference, and being on-line was printed. I wrote to Southport by snail mail, returning incorrect certificate, copy of original order, and quoting order number. I haven't had any acknowledgement, or received correct certificate. Is it better to e-mail or phone? Or is there any other action I can take? They have kept my money!

I have ordered about 20 certificates within the last year, always online, and I can honestly say I have never had a problem.

The birth certs usually arrive within about 2 weeks (and always around the date they estimate despatch) and marriage certs in about 3 weeks.

I would e-mail them, detailing all the problems you've had, and ask for an acknowledement of reciept of your query and give them a set time limit to resolve the problem.

    Good luck!

I regularly order certificates, in fact I'm awaiting three now. I have had the occassional problem where the GRO have not carried out the additional checking, but they have always refunded my money (well, £4 anyway) upon my returning the certificate. I always order online, and the refund is automated back to the bank. My current order should arrive early next week, but I now await with some trepidation!

Perhaps the problem you have is the volume of work and, perhaps, temporary staff. Why not give them a ring? I have found them very helpful.
