Are the real sports among the supporters?

During the 2nd Lions/Springboks match at a local pub, there were both British and SA supporters. Both sides' suppoters were disgusted by dirty play and and both sides applauded sportsmanly when the opposition team played good rugby. Afterwards the Brits congratulated the Saffers on their team's victory and the Saffers complimented the tough opposition. Then we all had a round of Springbokkies (a SA shooters drink), a couple of beers and compared current players to rugby legends from the past in good spirits.

In contrast to this the comments of both the Lions and Springboks coaches were very disappointing. In all Geech's comments he never gave credit to his opponents for their win and Div is probably the only SAn who thinks there's nothing wrong with Schalk Burger's early transgression. Bit disappointed in the example these leaders set to young sports people, in order to try and regain face.

I know what you mean. After the AB's beat Italy, all the coaches could comment on was how badly we played. I didn't hear them go on about how well the Italians played. BTW, if the Italians played like that in the 6 nations, then they would win a hell of a lot more games.

There seems to be less and less gentlemanliness (made up word, but you know what I mean) from the coaches these days, but at least it is generally still the norm amongst spectators.

I like rugby, but they can be stricter against people who play dirty, it's not necessary, rugby supporters is usually well behaved .... unlike some soccer supporters i have seen, i wonder how long it takes to clean up after a match

Yup good ole rugby supporters, good atmosphere unlike the atmospheres you'd get in similar sports.

I completely agree with you! Div was just over excited and geech was overly disappointed. Still these times are when a true leader shows their colours... and they didn't
