Mark on my son's leg - normal?

I asked this yesterday and only got two responses.

Our son is 11 months old. He was born in winter and when he was born we noticed a purplish mark on his leg that would come and go and asked about it - the ped said it was circulatory. Now that we are back full swing into winter the mark has appeared again. It is sometimes the same shape and sometimes not. When he is warm like straight out of bed it is not usually there. It comes and goes. It looks like your skin does when you are cold - blotchy or mottled. It is mostly on one leg but we have seen a similar thing on the other leg but not for ages. Is this normal? Doctors and nurses do not seem to be alarmed but I am a Mummy so worry WAAAAY to much.

I get that in my feet a lot as I have bad circulation. My feet are always freezing and in the winter well...lets not go there lol. You might find helpful if you was to massage your baby's let to get this going, any skin cream or plain baby lotion. It should fade as he gets older. All mummy's worry, well they should it's their job! :D

My daughter was born with a purplely red mark on her forehead. Its been called a stork bite and an angel kiss by different people and doctors. I'm not concerned. It comes and goes. Now it mostly only shows up when she's angry. My 12 year old nephew was born with the same thing and his only is there when he's upset.

I will look it up for you in the Medical Association book. Meanwhile do NOT worry.

When I was very poorly in hospital at 6 years of age with a very high temp. and hallucinating, they didn't know what was the matter with me, they just pumped 8 antibiotic injections into me every day and hoped for the best. The Specialist at the hospital told my mother " Do not worry about her, she (me) instinctivley knows that you are worrying - even when you are at home miles away after leaving this hospital every day, and this in itself is enough to set back her recovery. Think that she is getting better".

(It took me years to believe the doctor's words until I got interested in books like ' Mind over Matter' I had no idea of what the human mind was capable of). That is the best advice I can give you at this moment, until I look it up for you. Don't stress yourself - Relax!

Source(s): I'm going to look it up in the Medical Book - the ones that nurses use.

It's possibly a birthmark...I have one that is pale red and does not always show up....my daughter has a similar one in light beige. Depending on his temperature, the blood flow to that area varies...so it only shows sometimes. Ask the doc then you can stop worrying.

It could very well be circulatory, maybe the veins are more apparent in that area? I get red blotches on my arms sometimes, more often in the winter as well.
