Cheap places in Europe for January?

My mom and are trying to plan a trip to Europe this January, ( two weeks). Where do you people recommend ? My mom would like to go to Venice.I`ve checked with Travelocity and Expedia, Venice is $3,500 for two weeks. This isn`t including food and travel etc...What places are interesting and somewhat reasonably priced? I`m looking in the $5,000 price range, for two weeks..

I live in Canada, BTW. I`ll be flying out of Toronto, ( Pearson)

Update:

I wouldn`t mind the Uk. Anyone from there?

I went to Europe in January two years ago and loved it. Two places we loved: Bavaria, around the area of King Ludwig's castles. We stayed in a wonderful, small personable B&B in Schwangau, which is about a 15-20 walk across the field to Hohenschwangau, where the two famous castles are. It was also right down the street from the wonderful Kristall Therma spa, in which we swam outdoors in heated pools just a meter or so from the snowbanks! It was also an enchanting wonderland, great for hiking, cross-country skiing, and the town of Füssen was also close by for shopping, theatre, etc. It was about a 40-minute walk along the cleared walking paths. Then we took and overnight train from Munich to Bologna, which we found to be a fantastic city. Hardly any tourists, but a wonderful, hospitable and historic city. We had a blast. Only an hour away by train is Ravenna, famous for its Byzantine mosaics, which are as dazzling today as when they made more than 1,000 years ago. Do consider both places for your winter holiday.

Croatia and Czech Republic are outstanding and extra interior of your means than different areas of Europe! well worth a seem and propose Prague and Cesky Krumulov for Czech Rep and Dubrovnik in particualar in Croatia...... i think of Italy has lots to grant as nicely, yet besides the undeniable fact that there are some amamzing places in France different than Paris that are impressive!!!!
