Fixing a sticky laptop key- need help?

The D key on my HP laptop is sticky,as in, whenever it feels like it, just producing long lines of "ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd" in whatever I am doing. This of course is making it very hard to use my laptop! How can I fix this?

Update:

edit. Have tried cleaning - thanks to the lovely people. I have worked out that if the key is off, or loose, I dont get the ddddddddddddddd but if the key is snapped on "properly" again, I get lots of dddddddddddd! I reckon theres some dust or summat (not food as I dopnt eat over the lappie) deeper in the works but I dont know how to get in there

well. maybe when your using the laptop your eating and maybe a food particle got in the D key. well first thing get a brush. run the brush over the keys and try that if the particle can be removed. try looking closely at the d key if theres somethings stuck and pull it out with tweezers or somthing. or some laptop keys can be removed try slowly with a pointed object and slowly remove it. well some laptops have keys that cant be removed .lastly if all doesnt work go to a computer technician so he can manually remove the key.

The keys should be able to pop off, you can usually do this by wedging something like a pen under the key and prying the key up, you can then clean the area underneath and sometimes the little button that it depresses can be bent at an angle and if you straighten it up it can solve the problem.

This has happened to me before, and I have managed (very very carefully) to remove the key from the key from the keyboard to clean it. It should just pop back on again afterwards. However, I do have a Dell, so the keys could be fixed differently on to your keyboard.

try flipping the keyboard upside down and pulling the sticky key up. If it is a relatively old keyboard you might need to replace it
