Why did my bunny die?

My 11 month old lop eared was perfectly fine last night when i put her in her cage and then my girls got the 2 of them out to hold (they were right next to me on the bed) my daughter yelled he peed on my and then 2 minutes later she asked me if he was dead and i picked him up and sure enough he was limp amd had apparently just died, my daughters never pick them up by there necks, they hold them properly, what happened

It's impossible to say without some sort of post mortuem. Rabbits do get scared quite easily, so a heart attack caused by fear could have been the case, though no-one can speculate. If it helps, exactly the same thing happened to me when I worked in a pet shop- I carried a rabbit off from the shop floor to the back room, because he just didn't look right, and he had a fit, peed on me, and died- there was no apparent real cause apart from that fear factor again.

Hi, I am very sorry to hear about this.

Rabbits can die quickly if they are hit in the right place of their body. A few years ago at college, someone dropped a rabbit and didn't tell the tutor. Not long after the poor animal died due to internal injuries from being dropped. This is probably what happened to your rabbit.

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Did your daughter drop the rabbit when he peed on her? A broken back or neck can kill a rabbit instantly. Did your daughter squeeze the rabbit in response to being peed on? How was the rabbit yesterday? Had he been eating and pooping (for lack of a better word) normally? GI Stasis is a quick killer of younger rabbits. Please read the House Rabbit Society web page for more information of GI Stasis, proper feeding and diagnosing health problems.
