How do I open these files on my iMac?

When ever I open a .doc file on iWork on my Mac it says 'the document couldn't be opened'! How do I open these using iWork '09? And also why is it that these files open using iWork '09 on my Macbook?!

If you download OpenOffice to your iMac, then OO is compatible with Microsoft Office so your files would be able to be opened in OO as opposed to iWork.

Is it the same version of iWork with the same updates? If so, it may need to be reinstalled, or in its preferences, it may need the .doc format checked so that it knows to translate it.

I have to agree with the other poster that Open Office (freeware) is a better clone for Office and opens .doc files much better than iWork.

Used to have the same problems years ago with ClarisWorks (forerunner to AppleWorks) and AppleWorks. (forerunner to iWork)

I think that you need Microsoft Office Mac 2008
