Where can I get a replacement hard drive?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop that has a fried hard drive. I want to try and replace it to see if it gets the computer up and running again. I have found a lot of online stores that sell hard drives, but I can't find any that say they are compatible with my specific computer. Would a Western Digital Scorpio Hard Drive - 120GB - 5400rpm - Ultra ATA/100 work? Here is the link:

If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it. I basically just use the computer for internet, email. I have another computer that I can use for music, photos, movies, etc.

From looking up your laptop on the web, it looks like it uses a Laptop SATA drive. According to Amazon.com when I lookup Presario CQ50's.

Go to www.newegg.com and browse by hard drives. Then chose Laptop Hard Drive and SATA drives. I'd probably go with a 7200 rpm SATA 3.0 hard drive. You may want to check if you laptop is capable of SATA 1.5 or 3.0 transfer speeds. Get the fastest you can and the highest RPM you can.

You have to look at what kind of hard drive the laptop uses. The best place to find out is either on the manufacturer's website, or by looking at the dead hard drive. Go to HP.com and under product support see if you can find your laptop. I believe it would work, but I don't know anything about your laptop. BTW HP owns Compaq, thats why it would be good to go to HP support. I suppose you could also try compaq, but idk. I don't own a compaq computer.

Take the model number to best buy and have them match it up with the right one. Could have one of two interfaces IDE or SATA
