Mother cat moving kittens?

My girlfriends cat pushed out 5 kittens on valentines day and about two weeks after decided to move the kittens, she moved them from there birth area (A rather large open top box) into the bottom open draw of her wardrobe which is 1/2 the size, is this normal?

    Yes, it is normal.

Mother cats may move their kittens several times. The kittens should be wobbling around practicing their walking. But since they are unable to climb as yet, they should be safe from falling out of the drawer.

She will probably move them again in a week or so so don't be surprised when she does.

Once she has moved the kittens back to ground level your girlfriend should start putting food out for the kittens. Tell her to buy a premium canned food, mix it half and half with water and spread it on a plate near where the kittens play. The idea is that they should be allowed to walk in it. Once they do that they'll need to clean it off and begin to eat solids.

When this happens they will also need a kitten height litter box. They will begin to use it as soon as they start eating solids.

Anyway, as long as the kittens are safe, let the mother cat put them where she thinks best.

She feels safer in her spot. You could try a cardboard bow on it's side as this affords her a secure location with only one direction to guard. Put it somewhere quiet and as far away from drafts, people and noise as you can manage. Put a blanket or towel in the box. If she goes back to the closet you are just going to have to live with her choice as you will be causing her a lot of stress. A gated pen is a good idea when the kittens start to roam independently but again mum will want a secure location and may reject it if she doesn't feel safe.

Ha ha yes this is completely normal. My cat had several litters of kittens where she moved them every so often around the farm, every time we found them she'd move them again. Cat's nature is to move their kittens every so often to keep them safe...

eventually we caged the cat whilst pregnant and were able to successfully re home a whopping 10 kittens after she adopted another 3 that had been abandoned by a feral cat.

Probably after the kittens were born your friend was showing all her friends and making a fuss of them - so the mother wants to move them to somewhere else thinking then that they are safer as no one knows where they are.

What your cat is doing is very normal. It's part of their instincts. If you don't mind having them in open wardrobe. They'll be fine.

yes its normal & good that mother cat moves kits to where she thinks is better location - or if she thinks humans touch them too much where they are.

Yes, she will because she wants peace, quiet and security. She will move them out of harm's way continually, if she fears for their safety. I would suggest leaving her alone otherwise she may abandon them.
