HMS Shannon's capture of USS Chesapeake 1st June 1813?

Many thanks to Will and Stabilis. I am hoping to find a 1913 record of the presentation of the medallions: a letter; a diary; newspaper article. I have checked the pub, and I see that it is not far from Nacton, which is the Broke family home. A definite connection there!

Thanks again, stabilis. Have looked at East Anglian Daily Times website, but they don't allow access to archives before 2006. I live in Yorkshire, so visiting museums, etc. that might have what I'm looking for is a bit awkward. I'm beginning to think that I've discovered all that there is to discover about the medallion.

Fri. 19/03. 1200 hrs. Thank you again, stabilis, but no luck at the RHS. I used their search facility and varied my search term, but the site delivers only current information about the school. Enter shannon and chesapeake action in the search box near the top of the page. I've extended the period that this question can remain on this site, but I'm not optimistic about seeing some written confirmation of the presentation of the medallion.

stabilis, you are a mine of information! Thanks for the information re Capt. Broke's sword, etc. Any scrap of info could lead to a good result, as I've found when doing family research. This investigation is rather like family research: I'm running into brick walls; I'm almost there, then nothing. I really appreciate the efforts that you are making to send me in the right direction. Surely, someone, somewhere, must have written something down about the medallion presentation.

I've tried nmm website, and so has the person who originally had one of the medallions. We weren't impressed by the nmm. It's been a struggle to discover what little I know about the medallion, and my optimism is getting less and less every day. I'll visit again in about 24 hours.

1535 hrs. 21.03. Thanks for the contact details. I have spoken to the author, but he cannot help with info about the medallion. His interest lay only with the Shannon of 1813, and he knows nothing about the medallion. I think that we should wrap this enquiry up. Let me know whether or not you feel that you might have other avenues to explore.
