Why, in "Answers" is "Religion & Spirituality" not amalgamated with "Mythology & Folklore"?

Myths and folkloric tales are widely considered to be fiction. Yahoo is not going to buy into any notion that all the religious stuff is real or not, so they have a different section for it.

Because they are two separate things and categories. Religion & Spiritualism are solid beliefs and cultural structures throughout the world. Buddhism, Christianity, Muslim, Atheism, and Scientology for a few examples are all views upon a higher power or lack there of and the rules and laws that subside under those spiritual beliefs that the people or culture choose to follow. To better some it up the definition of Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Mythology (Myths), and folklore are looked at ancient and traditional stories passed down through cultures and could partly overlap into religion. Religion is the foundation, the big picture. Depending on who is looking at the particular religion, mythology and folklore would go under and be a smaller branch off of the religion.

So, as to your question, if you reversed it, it would be what should be done. Religion & Spirituality should be the main catagory, for example....the Beliefe in God, or Buddah. The stories from those religious beliefs in the Gods would or in some views be considered the mythology. Such as any stories that may teach lessons, such as David vs Goliath, Noah and the Ark, or any stories tied into Buddhism, Allah and Muslim, or any other religions.

In essence the Greeks has a religion, they worshiped many Gods. There are several stories that are told from these beliefs, known as Greek Mythology, stories passed down from one generation to the next. It was widely excepted that the stories did not really take place or were exagerated to tell a moral or to teach lessons, as most no one now in the world follows that religion. But, if any do, it should be looked at as a religion and the stories of Beowolf and other characters fall under mytholgy of that religion.

I guess they do not catagorize Religion and Mythology into the same catagory because Religions are very defined in the world today by cultures. Mythology and folklore, such as Paul Bunion and Babe the big blue Ox, and Greek mythology stories that are taught in colleges are pretty well seperated into their own side of things. If you wish to be accurate, a thread about something happening in the Bible is appropriate for mythology and folklore, but how to pray, how to study, how to meditate, what to wear to church, etc, is all R&S.

Because religion is not accepted as myth unless you don't believe it. I used to have a lecturer who claimed to be a Dr of philosophy. She always referred to religion as a myth.
