There is no precise definition of "ballad." In general, a ballad is an example of narrative verse, a poem or song that tells a story. But you'll have to do some web research on ballads to get a more complete understanding of the many different poems in the ballad tradition.

A ballade is a poetic form with a particular meter and rhyme scheme. It consists of three eight-line stanzas followed by a concluding four-line stanza known as the envoi. You can web search "ballade" for more information and for examples of the form.

A perfect ballad meets every ballad condition. “La Belle Dame sans Merci” represents a picture-perfect ballad, fulfilling every condition of the definition. http://www.poeticon.com/ballad.html

The ballade (pronounced /bəˈlɑːd/; not to be confused with the ballad) is a verse form typically consisting of three eight-line stanzas, each with a consistent meter and a particular rhyme scheme. The last line in the stanza is a refrain, and the stanzas are followed by a four-line concluding stanza (an envoi) usually addressed to a prince. The rhyme scheme is therefore usually 'ababbcbC ababbcbC ababbcbC bcbC', where the capital 'C' is a refrain.

The ballade is particularly associated with French poetry of the 14th and 15th centuries. One of the most notable writers of ballades was François Villon. In Edmund Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac (play), it is a ballade that Cyrano composes impromptu during a duel.

There is no difference, just another way to spell the same thing, like gray and grey.

A ballad (or ballade) is a poem that has regular rhyme and rhythm, and tells a story. Basically, it has to rhyme, and the lines all must have the same amount of syllables or same pattern.
