The current currency is the Dinar, but don't know if the same currency was in the 17th century.

Gold was used to make the dinar which has been used for currency or money by the Muslim empire since the 8th century.

At that time Algeria was part of the Ottoman empire. The ottoman gold coin of the time was a sultani or, later, altin.
