i went away for 3 months and now my cat hisses at me, what can i do?

I went away for three months and came home yesterday, I was so excited about picking my cat up from my sister, but as soon as she saw me my cat started hissing and growling. she even slapped me when i went to pet her. So I left her to calm down for a night at my sisters house. My mum brought her back home today and she still wont stop hissing and growling at me,

I dont know what to do, I have had her for 7 years and we're really really close, she sleeps on my bed and we're always together. She used to be violent when we're playing but has never ever hissed or slapped me before. what's wrong with her? and what should i do?

thanks for any help

Your cat will recognize you more by scent than by looks (physical appearances).

Six months to cat is a long time. If you can, find some old clothing that is still in the home, perhaps in storage, that still retains your old scent. Put them on, and also, try and go back six months I mean, use the same soap to bathe with as you did then; use the same deodorant you did then, and the such.

She will remember you, it just may take some jogging of the memory. ;)

Hope this helps and also, do the same things you did with her before you left, as she will also associate those acts with her distant memory of you.

Seven years together & then you take her to a new place & abandon her!? THIS is what it appears to be in the cat's point of view...think about that for a minute darlin'. The cat then had to adjust to it's new environment (sister's house for 3 mos.) and all the humans there & then POOF! You're back & ripping the 7 yr. old cat out of this environment it was adjusting to & you place it back into it's old environment. That's a whale of of a thing to have to go through hon. Miss Kitty is stressed out for sure. You'll have to give that some time for re-adjusting. Kitty may have abandonment issues here. Good luck.

trade it in for a dog, lol jk

    Cats are very prideful

Give her time, dont carry her and let her come around, you sleep on the sofa and leave the bed to her. Cats arent like dogs, I dont think they care for the scent of humans, but just give her time

Give her time. She is punishing you for leaving her, she'll get over it in a couple of weeks. Cats do that if they feel you have let them down.

She's just really mad at you. Three months is a long time, maybe she is going to punish you for three months.
