African American - Are we all African?

Question

I recently watch a video with Richard Dawkins.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7diwQ5dHZ0  . And my questions have come from it....


1 Why do you need to call yourself anything other than your name?

2 Why don't white Americans call themselves European Americans?

3. Why are black Americans called African Americans, and not specific enough to state which country in Africa?

4 Is a white South African man a African American?

5 Am I right in thinking that Irish Americans are called that only if from Southern Ireland, and British Americans if from Northern Ireland?

6 Are South Americans in the USA called South American Americans? - No Mexican American!?

7. Are people from India in the USA called India American? Not to be confused with American Indians.

8. People from any Asian country which includes loads are just called Asian Americans?



Just some questions / thoughts - but does any of it really matter?

African American is a very misleading term.  The correct term to describe their race is negr0.  I have to spell it with a zero, because Yahoo censors that word.  I don't consider it an offensive term at all.  Blacks are never satisfied with any word they are called.  Negr0, colored, black, African American, what will it be next?  Midnight Ebony People?

1. America was built off calling people out of name - Rednecks, crackers, ni99ers, redbone(name after the redhound coon DOG), red skins, chinks, etc

2. Simply because they feel that an ALL american is a white american

3. When it comes to governmental statistics and etc you are either African American or Black.... Only if you are seeking to be deported or among a multi cultural gathering of conversations or events is when your asked for your specific ethnic back ground

No they are not they would list themselves as white caucasian, they are not native to Africa, they do not have heritage of indigenous Africans of South Africa or any part of Africa..Then there might be a couple that do do that... Though it wouldn't make sense because they are white and on the marker it says, Black/African american.

6. No the are either called latino(white, black, mestizo(mixed), mullato(mixed), zambo(mixed), Black(Guyana), or east indian(Guyana to)

African Americans are the direct descendents of BLACK African slaves brought to America.
