To bee or not to bee?

Bees are vital to the survival of our agriculture. Yet they are in very serious decline all over the world. Without immediate action to save bees we could end up with no fruit, no vegetables, no nuts, no oils and no cotton -- as well as no honey. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But leading independent research has produced strong evidence blaming neonicotinoid pesticides. This has led to beekeepers and scientists in France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the main manufacturer Bayer is based, already pushing successfully for bans of one of these bee killers. Meanwhile, Bayer continues to export its poison across the world. This petition calls for a halt to this lethal situation https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_bees/?vl until and unless the chemical fertilizers used are shown to be safe. Are you prepared to add your voice to this cause?

I agree with you that the consequences of the demise of bees will have dire repercussions and I have followed this for a number of years however I am not prepared to sign the petition without clear evidence that neonicotinoid pesticides are the root cause, until then such action as signing this petition is nothing more than an online witch hunt.

    Sorry but no.

I've lost track of how many things have been blamed for the decline in the domestic honeybee population. Why did you jump on this one, when the others have equally good data supporting their pet cause?

BTW, while the problem is definitely serious, it is more one with an economic impact than anything else. There are other insects capable of pollinating crops. They are mot amenable to being trucked from place to place, though.

It's all the fault of CNN. They secretly had the bee-killing stuff invented so they would have something to talk about. They have also invented global warming and the recession. I hear they are currently developing a zombie formula, and trying to change an asteroids path so it will hit the Earth.

Is it possible the main culprit is pesticides? I don't see how bees could stand that. If I were a bee, I'd hate all the pesticides.

Bumble Bees are clearly very gentle. I was once relocating a timber pile at a neighbors condominium a 12 months ago and there were numerous bumble bees buzzing around each our heads. It was handiest after we bought to the backside of the wood pile that we realized we were stressful a nest of them. We of direction left them to it then and they moved their nest a number of days later. They're reluctant to sting you and in contrast to honey bees they do not free their sting and die after stinging you so it isn't for the reason that of self upkeep. You might simply revel in their furry our bodies buzzing around the position. Now wasps they're unique and i believe you should have a look and notice if they do have a nest local. Most of them are only watching for food and will most effective sting if they are afraid for their lives. Creepies. Why don't you get the kids to peer what number of they are able to identify. Should you are living in UK or ireland they are undoubtedly innocent to you. Your children will prefer up your worry and emerge as neuritic themselves. Despite the fact that I was once fearful of spiders I made myself like them so as to not instill a fear into my youngsters and this was generally effective. Good good fortune and i am hoping you discover that they don't seem to be as dangerous as they look.
