What can I paint on pine chest of draws to protect from outside rain?

I have a chest of draws that I want to keep outside.

What can I paint on it to not allow any rain to get on it.

An outside gloss paint or varnish?

I wouldn't mind gloss paint as I want to use it to put plants and for kids as it has many draws.

It is too large for my flat and it is not junk.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

you need a paint or stain product that is made for outdoors. There are several products readily available at any hardware store, and you can pick virtually any color. Given the size, try to find the "test" paint samples that the better brands sell if you want more than one color.

You are smart to opt for a gloss paint, as the water will bead up. If you want a stained appearance, pick a glossy wood stain made for decks or outdoor furniture, or use BOAT varnish, as all varnishes are not the same. It costs a bit more but it very waterproof. Try and stay away from Matte finishes as they can get permeable over time and pine is a soft wood not generally used for outside for long periods of time.

There are acrylic products that you can use, but my experience has shown they don't wear as well or protect from water as well as oil based products.
