Civil War - 1950s: America as a whole did not want to venture into making Blacks equal with whites. The Federal government sided with whites against upholding black rights during this time. There were laws without punch and just for show as blacks struggled in all aspects of society. Always there were a few whites and blacks that stood up and were willing to suffer for the cause, but not enough to bring real change to all of America.
1950s-1960's: For numerous reasons, some think the two world wars and vietnam, were blacks fought and died, the mind set of whites and blacks began to change. Blacks to protest and stand up more, the majority of white citizens to say "something is not right here", and for the Government to side with Black citizens and began to in force laws and pass new ones to support Black Civil Rights, made the time right for great change.
