Cure for itchy scrotum i.e. bollocks?

My scrotum i.e. bollocks are itchy. They are red but they would be because I keep scratching them!

I assumed it was jock itch (i.e. a fungal infection, like athlete's foot) so I bought a cream for that. The cream does sooth them but hasn't cured the problem. I suspect that is the cream curing the problem rather than the anti-fungal active ingredient.

It is doing my head in. Anyone got any ideas? I really don't think it is jock itch. I can see none of the classic signs of a fungal infection - the only symptom is the itching.

I have Googled it & looked at medical websites. Has anyone had this & found a solution that was not related to a fungal infection?

All my scrotum is sore but the worst bits are either side of the scrotum.

Contact dermatitis! I've had it. It was a reaction to shampoo & soap residue because I was not rinsing properly.

I warn you that I thought it could not possibly be contact dermatitis as I have never had it before and allergies don't just suddenly appear. But when I rinsed better, the problem vanished. And allergies CAN just suddenly appear.

The penny dropped when TV programmes like Embarrassing Bodies had people attending with red, chapped hands and the doctors said it was contact dermatitis and they should change the soap they are using. I wondered if I might have the same problem - especially as sometimes when I get out of the shower, the crease between my scrotum & thigh is still ever so slightly soapy. When I rinse shampoo, it runs down my body & splits to run down those specific two creases. Presumably it gets trapped easily between the thigh and scrotum and therefore doesn't rinse out. That irritates the sensitive skin of the scrotum so it itches.

The solution: check the crease between your bollocks & thigh when you finish in the shower & if it is at all soapy, rinse again. Lift bollocks & rinse!

Haven't had the problem since. Had the problem remained, I would have done what the doctors said and changed my soap & shampoo.

Your quickest solution is to go see your local pharmacist and try a different anti fungal cream, or you may need to see your doctor for an antibiotic cream or tablets.
