    If you have

    ax^2+bx+c

then to factor you have to have the divisors of a, say u,v

    (ux+..)(vx+...)

    Also c's divisors are w,z

    we have

    (ux± w or z)(vx±w or z)

    4x + 8

Find the highest common factor (the largest number that fits in all the other numbers)

    4

Place this number outside the brackets

    4(

Put the original sum divided by the HCF inside the brackets

    4(4x + 8)

    et voila!

You can multiply it out again to check you've got it right ;)
