Will they keep updating security for IE8?

Does anyone know if Microsoft will keep releasing security patches etc. for Internet Explorer 8? XP is supposed to be covered under their service agreements until 2014, and IE9 and 10 only work on Vista and Windows 7. This _should_ mean they keep putting out updates and so on, but I've seen some disturbing comments about security issues being ignored since last spring....

Update:

Please don't just tell me to change browsers -- I'd like to, but it isn't up to me. There are a few people in the office who are uncomfortable with computers in general, and REALLY resist change.

For awhile yes, but eventually you will get a message that support will stop.

"Security for IE" is an oxymoron. I wouldn't trust ANY version of IE to be secure. In fact IE25 will probably be insecure years from now when it comes out.

You should get with the program and download Firefox or Chrome. I prefer FF but Chrome might be more user-friendly for someone used to IE.

edit -- lol who's David? My nick says "divide by zero".

Likewise I agree with Franklin Turtle (oops meant Dunbar Puppy, easy mistake to make :P) -- resistance to change, just for the sake of laziness, is a critical weakness.

Besides, the browsers aren't much different from one another. You click a bar and type a website just like you do in IE. Except in FF and Chrome the page will load faster, less RAM and CPU will be used, and your browsing will be more secure. And there are tons of add-ons available if you want, which don't require any tech-savviness to install or use.

They should be updating security for the interent explorer up till IE7. But I am not sure until when though, as IE9 is the lastest verison out at this time. You can ask them on there Technical Support team on their website. Or if you have Vista or Windows 7, you can download the IE9 off their website.

I'm with "David..." on this topic.

iE is so intertwined with the OS, this conduit into Windows is always going to be problematic.

Combine that with the insistence of Microsoft to ship iE with liberal configurations (for that "rich Internet experience"); the outright disregard for security in the iFrame elements; agonizing allowance of scripted assets, and you have (for millions of under-educated buyers of this OS) almost guaranteed serious meltdowns.

IF at all possible, iE should be mothballed.

Edit: Then the insistence of those to ignore solid advice will insure their own demise.

Windows OS, used on the 'Net, and especially using the stock iE browser is at best a gamble each and every time it's exposed to the 'Net.

    Good luck.
