Yahoo Answers is shutting down on 4 May 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. Thinking of quitting Yahoo Answers?

Gonna reach 1000 best answers in the photography category.

Seems like a good time.

Fed up with 'What is better canon or nikon?'

And pedants who say things like 'video isn't film, film isn't video, LEARN YOUR TERMS' to people who have been humble enough to ask for advice.

Life is simply too short.

I'm also annoyed with people who "Just Purchased" their Cameras and then comes on here on YA asking the Most Basic Camera Operations when They Clearly Haven't Made an Attempt To "Read" the "Owners Manual"

There are days I sympathize with you.

I, too, am tired of the recurring questions that COULD have been answered had the asker actually done some research. I'm not talking about the opinion/feedback questions, e.g., "Am I pretty?" or "Are my pictures good?"

Or by actually reading the manual that came with the camera.

How to achieve a specific effect, whether in camera or in post.

I've also been the subject of having my answers reported (in another category). I wasn't happy about that, as I had to defend myself. The answers I gave hardly, if at all, violated the Community Guidelines. I suppose whoever reported me thought they were being "cute," when it was an action that had serious repercussions, affecting a real person on the other end.

    Et cetera.

If you do, I for one, will miss you. You mostly give decent, well thought out answers.

But I know exactly what you mean. I gave up answering that Canon/Nikon/what color/professional camera for a $100 a while ago.

I'll always try to give some one an answer, for stupid beginner questions. I remember when I started, I read the manual a dozen times, and I still didn't know where to look when I needed advice. I didn't know what things meant. So "read your manual", works fine for me now... but it didn't 7 years ago.

The bad thing about people like you leaving is that it leaves more people like Jim A giving bad answers, or just using this a a forum to berate beginners. It's Yahoo Answers, for a reason.

Actually I did leave for about a year, and and no where near as involved as I was. But I still read this forum most days, and add a thing or two if I have something to add.

If you do leave, I can only say, nice to have known you, if only virtually!

    Hi Paul

I guess you'll do whatever you want to do..

I too get frustrated on here (& in Photography section) and, at times, have given short shrift to those people asking dumb questions.

What particularly annoys me are the arrogant 'just bought a DSLR going to start a business/shoot a wedding' clan, who when you point out the fundamental flaws in their plan, promptly block you.

100% with you on that specific pedant!

I think what draws me back is the same as the grisly rubberneckers at the scenes of car crashes - you know it's awful, but you have to look anyway!

I, for one, would miss you. I suspect that we may not always have agreed, but your answers are in depth & well thought out & you clearly have the knowledge of a long termer.

But if you decide to go - all the best!

Oh, "that". Well Sir I snooped and it looks like you said 4 months ago your GF wanted you to quit:) lol! Which is in my opinion understandable because a person can waste entirely too much time on here !

I myself "quit" a month ago and I have to say I am glad I did however there are times it really comes in useful "if you can weed out the idiocracies of many trolls and even scammers".

( I logged in because I need to know how to set up safely a non admin account on my windows 7 home pc). I don't know how. :(

Anyway best wishes and spend quality time with the GF first and foremost !

I'm reporting you because this is an offense to my God. Paul 31-3 "Go to Walmart because things are cheap."

I am shocked everyday at the level of stupid, mean, racist, sheepish, ignorant, toothless hillbilly, consumer culture, fat, and lazy things come and go on this site. We went over on our wireless and had no internet for a few days. When I got back on YA and saw "how can I take profesvfdianl photos, I have 6 cell phones and an Asian man" I thought why the hell did I spend so much time here? But it does pass the time. The only other option in most of the world is shop of get drunk. There is no reason you can't do it all on the computer at one time.

Just have to realize that free advice is not worth a lot...

I find it disheartening that some responders spend more time and effort to reply with scathing and downright abusive replies, when it would have been just as easy to provide the correct answer.

True, some people ask for the answer without looking it up, but no one is forcing anyone to reply.
