I would stay away from these cameras and stick to either a point-and-shoot or an SLR. If you aren't looking into buying multiple lenses and just want a camera to take pictures of the family here and there, stick to point-and-shoots. But, if you want to take it to the next level and get creative, I would suggest the investment in a digital SLR camera.

What price range are you looking at while purchasing a camera? Knowing this can help me accurately give you an answer as to what I think is a good choice.

There are many excellent cameras which will are compatible into your finances at beneath $four hundred. These digital camera indexed beneath come to brain. They are very well, and tremendously encouraged. one million) Canon A630/A640 two) Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 three) Olympus SP510 I tremendously suggest that you don't get a virtual SLR digital camera at this degree. An SLR is a digital camera that you'll be able to difference lens, just like the Canon Rebel XTi. The rationale is they're luxurious, are giant and cumbersome to deliver round, and make you fear to so much approximately the gear and no longer approximately the leisure of taking a snapshot. Also they surely don't seem to be as a laugh to make use of as a sophisticated factor and shoot digital camera. After a couple of years of finding out pictures, then I could endorse getting an SLR.

If you are serious enough to learn photography, get a dSLR. There is no other choice. Any model or brand will do. If you can not afford one, the bridge will do for the time being.

Merry Christmas! It certainly won't be the last. 2012 is just the end of cycle of that Mayan (or Aztec) calendar. After that, the calendar simply starts all over again. No need to worry. ;)

Of course, the camera snobs will say don't get a superzoom. I've just brought a Fuji HS20 and am highly delighted with it. Don't listen to the gloom and doom merchants who say such cameras are no good. Often they are better specified than low end DSLRs. Unfortunately you won't get one for the price you mention, however. But there are Fuji superzooms as lower prices
