Looking for food advice for cats with struvite crystals?
Hi one of our cats has just been found to have struvite crystals from a urine sample we took to our vets . We have an appoinment with the vet tomorrow and know will need a specailised diet which we will be talking about with vet . Have done a web search and there are a few specialised cat foods but just wondered if anyone here has had the same problem with there cat and what of the specialised foods you can get their cats seem to like best as he can be a fussy eater. Thanks for any helpful advice it always nice to get advice from people who cats have same problem .

If it is only struvite crystals (and some cats form mixtures of struvite and oxalate crystals) then you really have a much easier time. Acidification of the urine is what works with struvite crystals, and there a quite a few foods out there that will do that, and there are pills you can provide that are supposed to also provide an acidic urine, usually cranberry based.
Lowering your cat's urine pH dissolves struvite crystals. Treatment includes feeding a grain-free diet, increasing water intake, managing your cat's stress and supplementing her diet with cranberry extract.
