wireless extender question?

hi guys

heres the deal... i want a device that can pick up a wireless connection and then forward it using a ethernet connection to a pc thats quite a distance from the main bt home hub ( around 65ft )

i can get a wireless connection on the pc but as with many isp supplied routers its not briliant ( around 2 to 3 bars max )

ive seen the "TP-Link TL-WA730RE 150Mbps Wireless Range Extender "( http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/networking/wire... ) which looks like it may do the job... however i need a network expert just to confirm this....

and if this is ok can i simply pick up my wireless connection using this extender and then plug in my ethernet cable to the single 10/100 port on the back

also do you configure this extender using a web browser like other routers ( eg bt home hub )

any help will be much appreciated

    Having looked at the instructions I am not convinced you can use it as an Access point to pick up the routers signal and connect via ethernet to your laptop. You could use it in the range externder mode to rebroadcast a stronger signal to be picked up via a wifi adapter on your PC though. If used in this way your throughput will be halved at least due to the way they work

    You do normally configure these devices via a web browser

    You would be better suited getting a couple of powerline adapters and using those they are a little more expensive but will give much more reliable speeds

    I am familiar with other extenders. The ethernet port is only for configuring it with a browser,

    it can't be used for networking. You need to configure it to put in the SSIDS and authentication to repeat the wireless.

    So the PC will still need a wireless usb or card. Extenders tend to increase lag by 2. For generic browsing, it is okay. For gaming, probably not good.

    Another option is a power line adapter. I only use mine to simulate a phone line, but faster

    ones now exist. And of course, pulling a CAT 5 line is the best option.
