What happened to the pigeons? All appeared dying or dead, then they recovered.?

Travelling along the A45 near Daventry, Northants, a couple of days ago I noticed, across three fields, dozens of dying or apparently dead, wood pigeons. Some were on their backs, feet in the air; some were feebly flapping their wings. Had they been poisoned I wondered. An hour or so later, on my return journey, there was no sign of dead pigeons - just a large number of them feeding voraciously on the crop of rapeseed.. There had been a hailstorm earlier in the day but surely that can't have been responsible. Any ideas?

i dunno, but in america there was this thing where in the night, a sudden storm or something similar startled them and they flew into stuff and died due to low visibility, and the hailstorm could have caused the same conditions. also, pigeon are quite stupid, and easily stunned, there could have been a bird scarer malfunction or just maybe a large bird scarer

they probibly all got shot, and then cleared it all up by the time you went back. some people have special techniques for attrecting pigeons so they can massacre them.
