The first sets were the western sets, also known as Six Points, Texas. John Ford, who joined Universal in 1914 (the same year Universal City was formed), was a pioneer in western films.

Since the sets consisted of six streets that met at a central point, this enabled six movies to be filmed simultaneously, since this was the days of silent films and the noise from one movie wouldn't affect the movie filming around the corner.

When Carl Laemmle opened the studio, he advertised the opening to theater owners...but much like a high school party advertised on facebook, word got out and thousands of people showed up. Since the land was still a working produce farm, he sold them fruit and let them stay, and a business model was formed.

For 25¢, you could go to Universal Studios and watch movies film. Bleachers were set up, a box lunch provided, and audience members were encouraged to cheer the good guy and boo the villain.

Thanks to the success of the studio and the tour, other sets, like the Court of Miracles from the Hunchback of Notre Dame were able to be built, but it wasn't until Carl Laemmle, Jr. took control in 1929 that bigger budget movies, requiring bigger-budget sets like Little Europe, Spartacus Square, and New York Street came about.

The open sets sadly ended with the advent of synchronized sound, but the studio tour remains a major draw for Universal.

I used to work for Universal; but if you're interested in the history of the studio, the link below is a fantastic resource.

i could make a itemizing of the places you desire to bypass, then attempt to p.c.. a hostel or living house someplace in the middle. the only factor i could say approximately l. a. is that that's fairly sprawling. that's puzzling to get from say, Hollywood Blvd, to Venice coastline devoid of vehicle. you will could get used to the sketchy bus gadget. Wax museum is Madame Tussands, that's well worth a bypass to. so some distance as set visits bypass, a lot of shows assist you to be in the studio aim industry for unfastened. you in basic terms examine in for tickets on line, that's relatively basic. curler blading, your appropriate guess is Venice coastline. till you like some type of rink. A month could be slightly long. i could recommend slightly greater traveling, in case you are able to take care of it. If I have been making plans it, i could say 2 weeks in l. a., each week in San Francisco. maybe bypass to San Diego or Anaheim (Disneyland) to boot. the only different factor i could say is which you have a concern b/c of your a while. maximum inns won't hire a room to below 25s, and you're actually not criminal to drink in the states. you apart from mght won't have the potential to get a vehicle. and you may already understand this, yet a month in inns/properties/hostels would not come inexpensive.
