ESA has both a contribution-based and an income-based element. Contribution-based ESA can be paid if you are in an EEA country. You must be in Great Britain to be eligible for income-related ESA.

If you are not in the work support group/not expected to attend interviews or go on placements and you will be holidaying within the UK, then there will be no restrictions on payment of your ESA. If you leave the UK for your holiday, then you will be required to notify your JobCentre Plus advisor that you will be temporarily in another country: you can continue to receive either contribution-based or income-related ESA for up to four weeks whilst you are on holiday, providing you can provide the relevent evidence that you are only "temporarily absent" from the UK (flight references, hotel bookings etc should be proof enough). See here for the relevent DWP document endorsing this: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/international/benefits/emplo...

A word of warning - don't expect the JobCentre/Work Directions staff to know this. Before you leave for your holiday, you would be advised to write a formal letter to your advisor and mamnager of the JobCentre referencing the above document to avoid complications with your claim.
