The version of calculator on my windows machine calculates cos(x) by:
1. Menu/View/Scientific to set the Scientific user interface
1. Use the number keys to enter the value of x
3. Press the "cos" key.
cos(45) = 0.70710678118654752440084436210485

First pull up your calculator from the menu.
Then, hit the "view" button at the top.
Then, select the "scientific" choice.
Then, select the value you want for your x term
Then, hit the "cos" button.
