should i get another cat?

Hiya my name is Jo i am from the uk,i have been pondering over the idea as my current cat was born 11/10/97 he is getting old now and i know cats don’t usually live past 18 years. He is my best friend and companion but is it time to welcome a new cat into my home.

I am a stay at home mother my daughter turned a year a few months ago, so being at home i would be able to make sure my daughter is not ruff with the animal and eventually teach her that a cat like any creature needs respect.

My current cat prowler as i call him has lived with other cats when i lived with my mother, but is not as playful as he once was which makes me unsure of how he would react to a youngster that would most likely just want to play. I take good care of my current cat I make sure he is regularly flea treated and wormed when necessary .And should be moving to a bigger property hopefully soon.

I plan on getting a kitten if I do chose now is the right time ,I have good memories of when prowler was a baby I would like to enjoy there whole life from the day they leave their mother at 10 weeks to 18years later. I understand this means I will have to make sure wires/small objects are out their reach as kittens are very mischievous for such things.

Should I get another or is it a bad idea should I wait until I move, If I get the kitten before they will stay with me until day of move by wich the cats will be staying with a relative until the new place is organised.I proberley wont be moving for atleast 2 months mayb more.

Well Jo the issue is really that your cat Prowler is getting old like you said and wouldn't like a little kitten messing with him. I think you should wait out the rest of Prowlers years before bringing in a new little fuzzball to your lovely home. Let him live out his days peacefully.

If you are determined to get a new kitten, I would wait till you move so the kitten won't get too worked up moving from three places in a short time. Where it was born(also leaving it's mother), to your old house, then to your new house. Settle into your new pad and then look into the cat breed you desire.

    Good luck!

You should get another cat now. Even though Prowler maybe old and not being playful as he once was, this would be the thing for him to have is a new friend. The new kitty would'nt mind the move and would help Prowler feel better about his age.

cats don't play when they get older they are a bit like us really when the kids are screaming and running through the house and you can't be doing with it lol. If you get your kitten the same time as you move and your cat; then it's a new home for both where one will think the other has lived here before they came so it will be mutual territory and may work well in the long run.

It depends on how old your cat is cause if it has not got long left spend more time with that cat and wait till you move and till the other cat has passed so you will not put the old cat in any stress by a kitten always wanting to play

  • ive been in this situation before and my older cat didnt play and was well....old we ended up getting 3 kittens and they would try to play with him but he would just relax and let them do what they want i think that you should get a new cat it will probably make you and the cat feel better
