If the Scottish FA had been willing to see their players take part, then at least one would have been in the squad. Same goes for Northern Ireland. Pearce was evidently restricted to selecting from English and Welsh players.

Why no Scottish players were picked for the olympic team is because the manager must not have been able to find one that suited the match plan he had in mind. Is your knowledge of the game and the players at his disposal better than his? If so, how is it we've never heard of you? Don't let misplaced national pride blind you to the fact that the manager's career and reputation depend upon how skillfully he picks his team. If there were no Scottish players picked then they weren't good enough. It is up to Scotland to train better players, not for olympic managers to pick second-rate ones.
