Rat owners, do you put cages on top of other cages?

I was wondering if it is safe or not to put another similar cage on top of this cage:

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&biw=1366&bih=...

(the cage is A LOT bigger than it looks in the picture.)

The entire lid opens but i never use that opening as i hang hammocks, ropes and other toys from it so it doesn't matter. I would like to home rats separately from the ones in the first cage, but have it placed on top of the first cage. Safe or not safe? I wouldn't want it to collapse on my ratties but the cage was quite expensive and is sturdy and well made. What do you think.

(Rat owners only please or at least people who know what they are talking about.)

If the cage on top is smaller than the one on the bottom I don't see why you cant. I have my guinea pig cage sitting on top of my rabbit cage. I did have my rats on top of my guinea pig but i moved them 3 high was a bit too much. So there on a shelf all there own. But its sturdy and the cages don't move. you can try it.. If you don't feel good about it then just remove the cage and set it else where.

It's too small i am afraid. And it is tough to make a cage that low interesting for rats. So you will have got to purchase a much better cage. I take advantage of a ferplast Jenny myself, which my three girls love. It has some minor niggles, (small diminish door, in a not so effortless role) however i am very completely satisfied with it nevertheless do not eliminate it, it can be continually priceless to have a smaller cage, for aged rats that cannot get around so well, who could fall from further phases, or for rats that need rest after an injury, or although you're visiting anybody for a number of days, you could take them with you so you don't have got to prepare someone else to come back in and look after them for you. And looking via that website, i will honestly say, cages are significantly better value for money in the us than the uk.

I wouldnt just for the simple fact my rats think they are spider man and climb on the top of theirs. plus if there is a rat emergency and you need in that cage quick you would have to move that one first which is going to take up time.

Put the biggest cage on the bottom. Simple logic.

Don't worry about. Rodent cages are meant for the wear and tear that come with, well, rodents.

Yes, I do. As long as the cage has side ventilation, not just top ventilation, there's no issue. Just remember that rats need a LOT of airflow.
