Rat owners, is this normal or is my rat just plain weird?

Okay so i put my male rat in his cage and he wandered over near to where his cage mate was sitting and then put both his back legs up onto the bars of the cage (so he was literally doing a handstand!) and then peed!

I'm not really worried, more amused if anything but is it common for male rats to pee like this, or have i, once again, picked the weirdest rat in the litter! :) ???

well I know that small dogs do this to get their scent up to nose level for bigger dogs, and make themselves seem larger.

but I've not heard of it in rats.

    that's funny.

I'm sure it's harmless enough, but it is amusing.

Rats are gorgeous, amusing animals. Male rats will mark their territory by peeing in their cage and anywhere else they go. Its a natural thing even though the bit where you said he almost did a hand stand amuses me the most. I'm not sure but your rat is just probably marking the cage, specially when there is more rats with him. Hope I helped :)

He is just scent marking and he forgot the cage had bars. Maybe he has a warped sense of humor.

They aim to surprise us, in weird and wonderful ways... Haha, thanks for sharing, even though I can't comment on how often this happens as I have females

I'm not sure because I have females, but that's HYSTERICAL to imagine. XD
