What do you believe makes us human?

It is our ability to use our self-awareness to overcome our instinct.

Mind you, the majority of people do NOT overcome instinctive responses, and most humans operate on instinctive auto-pilot. But the ability to transform ourselves is an exclusive ability.

Other species of animals, however, are far more intelligent and self-aware than we give them credit for.

I am curious about your claim that the emotions of a dog are limited to those of a 2-year old human child. I would think they are comparable to an adult, and that the emotions of all animals are on par with those of humans.

Perhaps you meant "cognitive ability/level" rather than emotions?

At any rate, could you provide a link or source, because if I am incorrect I'd like to verify the information.

I agree with you band geek, except when you started talking about dogs...anyway, well i think it's the ability to walk on two legs, build and create things and using our mind to invent stuff, communicating with words, solve problems, traveling by car plane train or walking,etc., to learn things and go to school (<-- i know that one sounded stupid lol)...we are more intelligent and evolved than most animals that we know of on earth but at the same time we are not. our limitless emotions we have, working and making money, we can move a lot differently than most animals....umm wearing clothes, the ability to have compassion and really care for something or someone. that's all i can think of...

Yeah i dont think that is intelligence either, nor comunication, i think of animals as highly intelligent communicative beings, i have seen how they communicate, maybe not a thought as we say it but they do communicate, and well, we humans have that too, but the difference is we can verbally say it, we can walk straight, we can stare and stuff, i mean, isnt it obvious? we are a freakin earth-mamal with alien hybrido xD

So we are an animal "evolved", with certain traits that makse us human, thats why we are human . . cause we are human, and have the brains to be aware of it and go beyond just instincts but choices, thoughts, and faith, basically dreams . .

My Pisces friend told me the story of Dolphins and how the male dolphins are group rapists, so I wouldn't really think they are smarter...

Well if a human did that, he'd get punished, whereas in the animal world this won't happen. This is already a difference.

((((Don't ask me how he started to talk to me about dolphins, think we were speaking about bats... then one subject led to another, then we ended up speaking about how he could have, but didn't, throw me in the bushes and did something to me. Weird, eh? But he underlined how he was really a serious and single guy still faithful to his ex unfaithful wife. Pisceans do make sense! :) But I like him :D))))

Well i guess humans are the only known animal who have reached the moon and probably the first animal who have reached the space. That's what separates us from the rest of the animals.

Emotions.

Probably a combination of our intelligence, emotions, and physical body structure. Imagine building everything we have without opposable thumbs.
