Have you tried going there? if you do decide to then please do not go alone take a relative with you for support this is a very upsetting thing they are doing not only to you but your fathers poor cats who must be very confused right now,

another thing try contacting the RSPCA to let them know that these cats are not strays but pets who are not homeless as they have homes with your fathers living relatives that being you,the RSPCA will know for sure the address or even the vet your fathers cats were treated at,they too will have details,

do not let them give you the run around,to be honest this is upsetting to me to read what they are doing to you when your already going through an upsetting time, and if you have their phone number that will give a clue to their location too, never give up,

really sorry for your loss and i do hope for both your and the cats sakes this is sorted so they can come home where they belong.

This is heartbreaking. The cats are probably grieving just as you are, but they are under the added stress of being removed not only from their home but also having humans they know (you and your sister) disappear. I am not sure where you live, but you definitively need to go into battle mode.

Local government run animal control agencies and independent shelters are not all the same. While some (like where I live) go above and beyond making sure a displaced pet is taken care of, others are just plain ignorant and incompetent. First you need to contact law enforcement to get a detailed account of the representative of the agency that took the cat. You need to write out a voice message script for the animal welfare group and follow it up with a email stating the following: your name, your father's name, the situation, and a demand to know where your (right of inheritance) felines are now located. If you are in the US, you need to also state that if you do not receive an acceptable answer within 24 hours that you will contact the local media as well post the information on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter detailing how this agency has refused to cooperate with you and that the felines may be in danger. Then do it! Local newspapers love this sort of story because of the human/pet bond. If there is corruption at the animal welfare group, the TV station will do an expose since we normal humans love our pets. I have several friends on FB who are animal rescuers. Let me tell you, an animal welfare agency does not want the bad publicity even just once. These men and women network across the planet, and animal lovers will bombard the agency with emails, letters, and calls.

I will be honest with you. I do fear for your cat. Cats sometimes need a little time to deal with the abrupt disappearance of their human. A cat can be so fearful that they display aggression when strangers grab them and pack them up in a crate. I have heard of way too many stories where an ignorant volunteer mistook fear and depression for aggression, and the animal was put to sleep. I pray this is not the case with your cat, but if it is I pray you have the strength to go after this agency so that others do not have to go through something similar in the future.

  • Oh Josephine that is awful. I'm so sorry you're having to face this additional trauma on top of losing your dad. I'm disappointed to hear that Cats Protection are being uncooperative as they generally have a very good reputation. If they won't respond to your calls or e-mails, then perhaps it's time to go down a more official route.

In the UK cats are legally classed as the property of their owner and therefore the cat could technically be classed as part of your dad's estate. Even if your dad died without leaving a will, his estate will be shared amongst his next of kin and therefore you and your sister could legally claim you have inherited his cat. Ironically Cats Protection's own leaflets state that the theft of a cat is considered an offence under the Theft Act 1968.

Perhaps it wouldn't hurt for the solicitor or executor of your dad's estate to write an official letter to the branch involved requesting that they return the cat because it has been bequeathed to you and your sister. (They can explain that there was always an understanding between yourselves and your dad that you would care for his pets in the event of his death). If they ignore that letter, then a second one needs to be sent saying an official complaint of theft will be made to the local police.

It's also worth calling the RSPCA or other independent local cat rescues for advice as they may have come across this situation before. Perhaps the threat of a call to your local newspapers and radio stations might make them return your cat as charities don't need bad publicity. These are the contact details for Cats Protection's head office in Haywards Heath.

Hope you manage to get the cat back.

you should go down to the Cats protection Camberley. If not get your mom to do it. OR someone over 18. IF they still dont give your dads cat back contact the police.

Im very sorry to here that your father passed away. R.I.P

Is this a shelter, like were pets are adopted? If so you must hurry, search on their website or maps to find the location then go there, if they refuse to hand them over get the cops involed, because you should inherit those cats and legally they are yours

phone up and ask for them back and ask why they think they have the right to keep them. If they won't budge tell them that you don't want to do this, but you might have to report that they have been stolen.
