The molar absorption coefficient is a constant for each compound and each wavelength of light. The relationship between all of these is called Beer's Law:
A = ebc
where A = absorbancy, e is the molar absorption coefficient and c is the concentration. b in the equation is the thickness of a solution, and is usually 1 cm.
