NEVER BEEN TO LAS VEGAS? HELP!!!?

Hey everyone.

I'm going to Las Vegas in December with my family and two good friends and I've never been there before.

My question is what is it really like there, I mean in the day time and at night time. Is it really crowed there in December, and which hotel is the best to stay at in Las Vegas, thanks.

Well, your specific dates will have a HUGE impact on how crowded Vegas will be. Before Dec. 28 it's fairly quiet - but still active. There's a large Rodeo Finals from Dec 1 - 12 (give or take a day) which brings in a lot of cowboy types. But from Dec 29 to Jan 2 Vegas will be packed with people there to celebrate New Years. Prices for hotels, restaurants, and shows go up during the NYears period as well.

Staying *on* the strip itself for a first timer is the best. Look on a hotel map, and anything from The Wynn (north end) down to Mandalay Bay (south end) is the main Strip. If you want to walk around and explore the Strip, something centrally located is better: Harrah's, Flamingo, Bellagio, Caesars, Mirage, Treasure Island.

December 21 and later will be very crowded; maybe not so much on the 26 and 27. Christmas and New Years are two of the most crowded times; weekends are always crowded. "Crowded" means 500 people on line in front of you at a buffet, maybe 20 at a Starbucks.

December 6 thru 15 is the Wrangler National Finals rodeo. There will be a lot of cowboys in town but it's not very crowded this time of the month.

December 3rd and 4th would be good days to go, and Dec. 17 thru 20 after the rodeo. I've gone to Las Vegas about ten times immediately after the rodeo was over, it's one of the least crowded times to go.
