Light at the end of the tunnel?

When we die, and we see the so called light at the end of the tunnel could it just be us coming out of a vagina back in to the world as somebody else?

No, it's much more fun inside a vagina.

The light at the end of the tunnel is a perception effect from a failing neural network and can probably triggered artificially if an electrode is implanted in the right location. It probably has more to do with your brain's responses to a lack of oxygen than with anything else.

  • Well, many people who have experienced this and (lived to tell about it) have the same personality they had before... not somebody else' personality.

There is a canal in England (The Grand Union Canal) that tunnels under a ridge (the Blisford Tunnel) which is a bit over a mile long. The canal boats are 7 feet wide, and the tunnel is 15 feet wide. And the light up ahead was the lamp on an oncoming boat! Eventually (about 20 minutes or more) we saw the light at the end of the tunnel that wasn't an oncoming boat. We made that trip through the tunnel twice, back in the summer of 2002

By the way, there is likely a better area within Yahoo Answers for this question, other than Space and Astronomy.

"When it comes to seeing a soothing light at the end of 'yon tunnel, it's just a Freight Train coming your way!"

Actually you will see the same tunnel and light if you just close your eyes, and gently press the heels of your hands against your eyelids (like you had a bad headache, or an annoying relative)... and hold it. After a moment or 20, you will start to "see" flashes, sparks, and web traceries, that will eventually coalesce into a static spark image of your Optic Nerve pattern on your Retina, which to your perspective looks alot like a tunnel with a "light" at the center/far end.

What this actually is are the nerves misfiring due to the pressure your hands are putting on them; eventually the visual cortex of your brain will begin to interpret this data as what it sees, and start doing its "magic" of "filling in context-relavent stuff".. what your mind "sees" as an actual thing to see.

Its mostly your brain misinterpreting the signals, and the context filling process of your brain is why the tunnel could appear to have checkerboards, hexagons, wood grain, etc. patterns- its your brain trying to "see a pattern in the clouds", and actually filling in the missing details to MAKE the fleshed out vision we perceive as an "image". This is how optical illusions fool us- they misdirect the visual cortex context.

This "video processing" our brain does to what we see is important, and rather remarkable when you think about it: like how you can actually SEE the kids swinging on the swing set, while walking past the gaps in the planks of the back yard fence--- you only see slivers of the view sweeping past, but you actually "SEE" the view behind as a whole. Your brain did all that.

So we get to the near death tunnel of light: your brain does the same processing it does to compressed optic nerve data, only this time the confusing data is coming from optic nerves that have shut down due to death- the eyes stop working before the brain stops completely, and the visual cortex does a few gymnastics with that last flickering bit of data, so that the mind (you) sees.... something.

Its all context of course, so hopefully if it ever happens to you, the visual interpretation gymnastics chooses the "tunnel of light" context, and not the "Freight Train" context... :)

("Light at the end of the tunnel?")

    ------------------------------------

I was thinking about this subject just last week and came up with a hypothesis: what if? What if there really is something to our essence like a vital force? It is often said that when people are in the final moments of their life, they see their whole life time flash before their eyes, then dead soon follows.

What if that flash of one's whole life was actually the person's essence traveling backwards in time to their very beginning, their birth? What if the light at the end of the tunnel is indeed something akin to the birthing process being played out exactly as before. What if each one of us is doomed to go back in time and relive our life over-and-over in exactly the same fashion each time, ad infinitium. In each new life cycle, that person would have no idea they had actually lived in the past many times over. Such a hypothesis wouldn't violate any of the laws of physics nor would it create any time-travel paradoxes. If true, it would give new meaning to "make your life one that would be worth living all over again."

    Best regards

they don't die they're between consciousness.

they experience dreams, and sometimes open the eyes in a daze. these are the lights people see.

there is no such thing as a light at the end of a tunnel.

that is a nice sentence like a line from harry potter. but this world relies on evidence.

The only "light at the end of the tunnel" that I know of is the one people see when they are dying signaling the end of their life!! So maybe he doesn't see the end of your relationship or maybe he doesn't see where it is going!! All I can say other then what has been said is you should ask him!!! Cause he knows exactly what he meant by the phrase he used!! And if he doesn't know what he meant then maybe you should find someone that knows what the hell they are talking about!!! LMAO Nah just playin!! Just ask him

The fundamental problem with all "light in the tunnel" stories, of course, is that none of the brains experiencing this has actually died. If the brain was truly dead, it wouldn't be possible to revive it.

We might be going to another dimention because when i died for 15 seconds i saw this light. I dont know what this light was however.

It is just a simple reaction in the brain.
