Some of the major manufacturers retail computers in developing countries with FreeDOS on them instead of windows. Easy to see if you go to the brands web page for that country, but the idea of DOS as the default os on a brand name machine seems unfathomable to most people.
I don't think people are expected to use it, I think it's just a way of avoiding the 'windows tax'.
Answer to the question is it won't make any difference.

The only difference I can see is with the laptop running DOS. I haven't seen a laptop running DOS for years, so it may be old enough to be incapable of running Windows 7.

Not even windows uses DOS anymore.
