Google 'Penshaw Monument' and 'The Angel Of The North' .......?

......... and tell me which you would rather have on your doorstep.

That angel thing is ugly, a hunk of rusty metal overlooking the M1. The Geordies are welcome to it.

I'm a Mackem and whenever I'm on the A19 coming home, I see Penshaw (pronounced 'Pensher') and I breathe a sigh of relief ...... I'm home; it's a beacon, a gateway to Sunderland.

Do you have a landmark local to you that has a similar affect?

Apart from a few Viking statues in the town centre, nope. And I quite like the angel of the north, just me then?

I've only seen the angel of the north in person, but they both look nice to me :)

The closest thing in my area would be the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth ...
