Yeah a small element of falseness was required to keep some customers happy but I stopped well short of sycophantic bootlicking.

    Or:-

    Yeah! A small element of falseness was required to keep some customers happy, but I stopped well short of sycophantic bootlicking.

    Yes. You need punctuation. A comma after yeah and before but would make a better read. The sentence makes perfect sense!
