Can ants swim in order to reach wherever it is that they need to go?

For example: if their nest was surrounded by water, would they still be able to swim to reach it?

Ants can appear to swim. I believe they link their bodies over water and the others crawl over the linked ones. Of course the "bridge" ones drown but that is an ants life I guess.

They float, no need to swim. They will create a ball of ant to travel if the nest is in danger.

Yeah! I once put ants in a bottle of water and they just walked across the bottom holding their breath

no, once they break the surface tension they can't escape.
