Would no shirt, no shoes be acceptable for a Fourth of July party?

My wife and I are hosting a small 4th of July get together for family and friends. She has taken the task of being my fashion adviser. She purchased a pair of gauze draw string beach pants for me and insists they should be worn with the barefoot & shirtless look. Of course I'll follow her fashion sense but will I get comments about being too casual?

She will be in her standard summer style of shorts and barefoot.

The shirt-free shoe-free thing goes very well with the pants, and they'll make sense in just about any situation where your wife's outfit is appropriate.

But yes, sadly, given this society's hostility to what would have been de rigeur a few decades ago, you're likely to get dumb comments, about trying out for an Abercrombie greeter or the Chippendales (depending on the commenter's age and experience), having forgotten to get dressed, and so on. Your standard comment should be, "Ann [your wife's name] likes this outfit and so do I. I do hope you're comfortable in what you're wearing? Because you look good in it."

I'd show a little more respect for my guests and throw on a tank or tee to go with the pants. Also be sure you have on the right underwear so nothing shows through the gauze pants. That would be a super awkward look, worse than no top!! : /

If it's a casual gathering, I would say it's okay and not a problem. The party is at your house and you are the one who define the theme. Nothing to be uptight about a simple party. In addition, your wife encourage it so it would fit into the party theme. Enjoy the party.
