Try to reboot the device, it should be back to normal. Here's some instruction on how to reboot the device, as well as suggestion to some other common problems:

Well I've owned six kindle fires now and they keep malfunctioning either freezing, doing the black screen, or the screen starts jumping around like a dog in a bounce ball house! From my experience if you turn it off forcibly (hold power button for 20 secs) then wait another 20 secs and turn it back on and it isn't fixed and is fully charged its a manufacturer error and you will need a replacement. I really wish I had waited to get mine until they worked out the bugs. It seems like an amazing concept, but they REALLY should have made them better! If it's not the screen it's the charging port. (Keeps coming loose and stops charging) I really hope you bought the warranty!! Best of luck!
